Chapter 3: Building understanding of gender and rights II: Addressing dilemmas in gender and rights-based approaches to development

This chapter analyses specific problems related to a gender and rights approach to development, in terms of the issues raised in Chapter 2. It discusses and disentangles concepts, and provides examples of how these dilemmas manifest in development practice. The dilemmas will include those that emerged in interviews with Gendernet members as well as some identified in literature on gender and rights in development.

The starting point for this section is the key dilemmas outlined in the interviews that were conducted with members of Gendernet, who represent different NGOs in Denmark, in trying to bring a gender perspective to rights-based approaches.
